Biography

Amanda Couch (b.1975 in Swindon, Wilts, UK) is an artist, lecturer and researcher in Fine Art, based in London. She studied at Norwich School of Art (1995-98) and Royal College of Art (2003-05).

 

Amanda has won three research awards from the University For the Creative Arts (UCA) (2011-12) and (2009). She was also awarded the Meltdowns Residency, supported by Fenton Arts Trust, (2009), the Jerwood Drawing Prize (2005), the Basil H. Alkazzi Travelling Scholarship (2004), the Robert Fleming Residency Award (2001), and a Graduate Studio Award, Cuckoo Farm Studios, Colchester (1999).

 

She performed at Performing Medicine’ conference, Lincoln University, Lincoln (2014); at the 2nd Global Inter-disciplinary conference ‘Body Horror’ Athens, Greece (2013); as part of ‘Allotment’, London, In collaboration with BROQWiEM (2013); as part of the Spork Food Monthly at The Albert, London (2013); ‘In Other Words’, Fringe Arts Bath Visual Arts Festival (2013); at the Small Publishers Fair, London (2013); at Loopart13, Deptford, London (2013); at the M:ST Performative Arts Festival, Truck Gallery, Calgary (2012);  Book Live! International Symposium, London South Bank University (2012); Château de Sacy, France (2010); The Supperclub, The Basement, Brighton (2010); Spill Festival of Performance’s ‘National Platform’ (2009), ‘Once upon Time’, Farnham Maltings (2009); The Open West’ Summerfield Gallery, University of Gloucester, Cheltenham (2009); ‘Tract’ Live Art Festival, Newlyn Art Gallery, Penzance (2006); and ‘Body Parts’ Society of Scottish Artists, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh (2006).

 

She has exhibited in group shows, which include Kaleid 2014: Artists Who Do Books, Book Fair, The Art Academy, London (2014); Diffusion Cardiff International Festival of Photography & Limerick International Publishers’ Salon (LIPS) (2013); In Other Words Fringe Arts Bath Visual Arts Festival, Bath( 2013); Text and Context English Faculty Library, University of Cambridge (2013); Cambridge ‘Imprint’ Kingston University (2012), ‘He Do the Police in Different Voices’ Blythe Gallery, Imperial College, London (2010) ‘Heart of Glass’ Shoreditch Town Hall (2008), and ‘Drawing Breath’ International Touring Exhibition (2006-8).

 

She delivered papers at The Artist as Researcher, HEA Academy, Manchester Museum (2014); at 2nd Global Inter-disciplinary conference ‘Body Horror’, Athens, Greece (2013); Storyville: Exploring Narratives of Learning and Teaching, the 2nd Annual HEA Arts and Humanities Conference (2013), Visual Arts as Research Data (2012), ‘Making Time’ Symposium, Live@Lica, Lancaster University, Lancaster (2011) and Trans.form@work: Experimental Methodologies and Interdisciplinary Challenges in Arts Research, Postgraduate Symposium, Department of Dance, Film and Theatre, University of Surrey (2010).

 

Amanda teaches Fine Art and Creative Arts Education at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham. Her practice straddles the domains of photography, drawing, installation, performance, research, and writing.
